Queensland's energy futures

Energy is integral to the comfort, lifestyle and social well-being of all Queenslanders. It is also a vital contributor to the state's economic development.

At home energy is used for cooking, cooling, lighting, water heating and entertainment. At work, it is a cornerstone of modern commerce and manufacturing. In Queensland, like developed economies everywhere, energy consumption is closely aligned to economic growth.

Through its Q2 vision and ClimateSmart 2050 strategy, the Queensland Government is actively pursuing the development of clean energy sources to ensure that our state plays its part in helping to achieve by 2050 the national target of a 60 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Queensland's energy future is based around low emission coal technology, gas and clean, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydro and geothermal.
